Fishing and Painting

Why did he agree to this? Oh, yeah. He was forced into this. Well, not really. He did want to go fish, but apparently the elf, Vaelte, wanted to go with. And of course instead of taking that cowardly horse he rudely saddled himself on his back. "There's no need to rush, we've got all day to fish and we should make use of that. Now that we've got three of you." He called from his back.

"Are you sure we can get enough from the river?" Plamen asked, seeming skeptical of this man's knowledge. "Who said we're going to the river? That place is just for my food, I've got enough stocked up. We're going to the edge of the island, and catch something big. Or several big things- As much as you can carry honestly." Vaelte replied. The dragon audibly groaned and spread his wings. They may as well fly there, then. That would be much faster. Or so he thought, until he felt a thwap against his head. "Hey! What's that for, knife-ear?!" Plamen snarled at him, looking behind himself. "No flying." He said. He did not elaborate, which was even more infiuriating. Plamen, however, complied because it was very uncomfortable to be thwapped on the head every time he spread his wings.

After a grueling long time of walking through the wasteland, then reaching the actual nice part of the isle, and then trudging through an entire tropical jungle of plant life to reach the beach, Plamen was already exhausted. Not physically, of course. But just mentally. Because this elf would just not let up.

Luckily, he slid off of Plamen's back and landed off of his feet. He stretched himself for a moment and removed some items from the dragon's back, before setting up a little station on the beach. The elf had set up an easel. He was going to paint.
"So first you make me walk all the way here and then you just make me do all the work?"

"The walk had a purpose, and you're better at hunting large fish than me. I can't quite dive down that deep and snap up a fish with my little elf hands you know."

"Well what the hell was the purpose?!"

"You'll figure that one out at some point. If it makes it any better, we can fly back when we're done here."
Vaelte was already done setting up as he began painting. Whatever. Plamen ran towards the water, intentionally kicking up sand into Vaelte's direction, and dove into the great blue.

Plamen allowed himself to sink into the waters as he lazily paddled around. The environment had some schools of tropical fish swimming around, some... eel? At the shallows there was what he swore was a gigantic rat casually walking on the seabeds. Man, there was nothing big to fish for here. Let alone anything interesting going on. He decided to first speed up his paddling and snap up some of the smaller fish as a quick lunch, diving out of the water and dragging a mouthful onto the beach to munch and crunch. It was rather satisfying to dive here, actually.

After a brief pause, he eyed the elf for a moment. He seemed to absolutely not be concerned with him in the slightest. He got up again and wandered into the water, but then decided to spread his wings and fly into the air instead. To spot a small fish you'd have to be near to the water, but anything larger had a very visible silhouette. And well, death from above, right? It took him a while of lightly gliding around, but then... There they are! Some large fish further out into the waters, chasing after something smaller likely. Within seconds, Plamen had dove down into the water- managing to not just grab one fish, but two! One with his mouth, and one with his front claws. Flying back out after diving into the water like that took a bit of extra effort, but he managed to reach back into the air regardless- Softly landing in the shallows to avoid knocking things around for Vaelte. He had to perform a silly hind-leg-balancing act to walk over to the spot where he had started leaving fish.

After a few more sessions, he started taking breaks inbetween. Sometimes he messed around with the sand instead. Or he started collecting driftwood in the shallows. Vaelte had not paid him any mind once since he had started fishing. And well, the pile had grown rather large. Maybe he should grab a batch of smaller fish, for the elf. Yeah, that sounded right. Unlike the large fish, he couldn't use his mouth for these or else he'd simply eat them. He doubted Vaelte wanted anything that was pre-chewed. Running happily into the water, he slowly swam in the shallow waters to find something that could feed a mere hatchling. That was about the amount that he observed the manthing eat. He grabbed for a fish, aaaaand.... It swam out of his grasp before he could reach it. And then he tried again, and it was gone. Why were these little ones so much faster when you were trying to take them with your claws?!

It took him at least twenty minutes to catch a single small fish, but by the gods he was prideful of that accomplishment that he didn't even mind the silly three-legged walk he had to do to excitedly reach Vaelte.

"You- Elfthing. I have a fish for you- eat." Plamen said, laying it onto the sand beside him. "Thank you, Plamen. I suppose a break would be good for now. Would you mind grabbing some kindling for me so I can start a fire?" He asked him, wiping some paint off of his fingers on his trousers before taking the fish to begin preparing it for a meal. Plamen went off to get some kindling without complaint. Maybe going fishing wasn't so bad.

Vaelte takes Plamen out for fishing in a weird bonding exercise.
