[Trade] The Shimmering Voyage, Part 1
The heavy gray clouds begin to thin out, filtering in the crimson light of a sunset as the bow of the ship finally tore through the haze and into new lands and new horizons. The warm orange bathed the soaked, weather beaten deck of the ship, and along with it strands of shimmering gold amidst an opalescent white coat, the glint intensified by a heavy coating of raindrops that caused it to sag and weigh heavy on their owner. The ravager's eyes fluttered open with the light, as if to welcome them, and her body unfurled from the tight ball it had collapsed into to weather the storm.
"Does the weight and water not bring discomfort to you?" A soft voice asked from behind, heavy footsteps approaching quickly though carefully to join her. She did not even flinch in surprise, having expected him for a long while as soon as the rain ceased and the sun could filter and break against his brilliant navy fur. Gently she made space for the much bigger dragon to sit beside her and watch the sunset across the floating isles before them.
"No, not at all. And the view is more than worth a little wet fur."
The view was indeed breathtaking. The orange light filtered the skies into warm shades of pink, the light breaking against each individual droplet of water that flowed off countless islands that floated around like leaves on the surface of the water. Beasts and ships alike moved to and fro about their business, looking more like insects from this distance than anything else as the winds weaved the treetops and grasses in unison in a mesmerizing display as they carried along water, air, earth and magic in the most intricate manner imaginable, weaving each better than the most skilled of human weavers.
"There is still plenty of time to go exploring, the ship shan't dock for another two hours."
A younger voice addressed them, pulling their attentions away from the view and onto the nigh pure white dragon as he landed nearby. His posture was proper, confident, befitting someone of such appearance, without a speck of dirt or water to sully his coat, but he still did not forget to bow his head in respects. "Sir Lathair, Lady Winyara." A shadow trailed behind him, walking along the deck, the brilliant vermilion of her wingtips catching light and standing out even more against the black coat as she used them to shield her upper body from light. She remained at a distance behind him, merely giving them a cursory nod.
"We only need be here for the docking, so I see no harm in some exploration." The smallest of them concurred, taking a moment to shake her soaked coat off much to the displeasure of the two males. The older male nodded. "Indeed, it would, but first..." A lick of flame followed a gust of hot air from his nostrils and mouth, and in an instant she was completely dry and incredibly fluffy, causing her to let out a small, surprised yelp. "I could not let you trail water all behind us." He chuckled.
In the next moment, they took off, Oberon taking point with confident, strong wing strokes, as if he did not fear tiring himself any time soon. Lathair followed suit, keeping above but reasonably close to his former pupil, using some of his wind to coast and glide more comfortably. Chili stuck close to the two males, albeit below and to the side, so their shadows could adequately shade her and she can remain close in case of... interruptions, while Winyara brought up the rear with some space to spare.
A shadow breezed below them, causing the black female to raise slightly as she looked down at what it was, causing her vigilant mate to notice and turn his head if just so slightly. One of the gryphs had fled from their cover under some bushes, perhaps spooked by the size of the dragons, and as soon as the two had realized, they exchanged knowing glances and sly smirks. The older male had noticed this far too late, having closed his eyes for a moment to enjoy the wind against his face.
In unison the two younger ones folded their wings completely, diving down after the comparably smaller black creature with breakneck speed. The sudden change in his coasting wind caused Lathair to flinch and tumble mid air as his mate passed him, turning upside down to use her talons to right him so they may go after them. Oberon and Chili meanwhile used this extra space they had created to pursue the birdlike creature a little further, the female enjoying the chase and a distraction from the new and potentially dangerous while the male simply enjoying her.
As the black feathered gryph dove into the forest, the two polar opposites skidded to a standing halt just at it's edge, on a small patch of land on the very ledge of the island. Both slightly out of breath, they gently and lovingly crossed their horns for a moment in a nuzzle like motion before sitting down to properly rest their many pairs of wings. The navy male came a minute later with his own mate in tow, looking equal parts disappointed and amused at their youthful folly in this new land. Winyara, however, was a little less enthused it seemed.
"Why you two should know better than to fly off like fledgelings when they get their wings." She scolded and nipped at both of their furs and wings, not hard enough to injure but certainly enough to mess up and make it itch. Oberon simply took that in stride, though Chili attempted to return the favor, only for the ravager to nip her face without a moment of hesitation. Once she was well satisfied with treating them like hatchlings, she too sat down to rest, next to her mate as they watched the sun completely dip below the horizon.
"Dear, I believe that is our ship docking."
And just like that, the tranquility was once again broken.
