Aside from lacking a few screws in his brain, Kaerimus can't boast of high intellect. He has no telepathy or use for language - he most closely resembles a smart beast. Magic is certainly off-limits to him. The legend goes that Ar had lost a rider with whom he had flew for decades and the grief drove him mad. The second version of his backstory is that Ar is just what Avery, his rider, nicknamed him after their first ride - a cretin. In the dragon's defence though, Avery can't name an amoeba to save his life and the name had conveniently stuck since Ar's real name is far too long. Strangely enough, the dragon reacts much better to Avery's 'version' of his name than to his given name that represents his royal blood; and dragons forbid anyone to call him 'sugar' or 'darling'. Perhaps the one and the only reason why the rider keeps this crazy beast around is that Ar is surprisingly gentle, soft and playful with the little ones. His devotion to the dragon cubs is so great that he is always found leaning over them protectively against a threat well before their parents even have a chance to spring into action.
